FRIENDLY REMINDER: MSIG Travel Insurance Coverage Regarding MERS
Release on 9 Jun 2015, 3:35 pm
ATTENTION: The Hong Kong Security Bureau issued a Red Outbound Travel Alert (OTA) for South Korea on 9 Jun 2015 at 12:00 pm (“Cut-Off Time”). THE HONG KONG GOVERNMENT ADVISES RESIDENTS TO AVOID ALL NON-ESSENTIAL TRAVELS TO SOUTH KOREA (please click here for more details). In view of the spread of MERS in South Korea (“Incident”) MSIG therefore treats the Incident as a “KNOWN RISK” from the Cut-Off Time onwards with regards to all subsequent purchases of any of our travel insurance plans.
Furthermore, because of the impact of the Incident over a vast area in South Korea, MSIG extends the “Trip Cancellation and Curtailment” cover to Red OTA in such a way that the related coverage will be provided as described below:
✓ Trip Cancellation and Curtailment
MSIG will have special compensation arrangement for the RED alert for the Incident although our travel insurance policies only cover BLACK alert. If you cancel your trip to South Korea because of the Incident, you will be covered for cancellation of any trip to South Korea departing Hong Kong on or before 31st July 2015, as stated under the Extra Benefit for Black alert under OTA in the policy without prejudice. For more details of the coverage, please click here.
“Trip Cancellation and Curtailment” cover
✓ Medical Expenses
✘ As the Incident had been widely reported by media in Hong Kong and international news media on the Cut-Off Date and the Incident has become known to the public in Hong Kong, any losses caused by the Incident will NOT be covered even though you have successfully taken out the policy.
