ATTENTION: The Hong Kong Security Bureau issued a Red Outbound Travel Alert (OTA) for South Korea on 9 Jun 2015 at 12:00 pm (“Cut-Off Time”). THE HONG KONG GOVERNMENT ADVISES RESIDENTS TO AVOID ALL NON-ESSENTIAL TRAVELS TO SOUTH KOREA (please click here for more details). In view of the spread of MERS in South Korea (“Incident”) MSIG therefore treats the Incident as a “KNOWN RISK” from the Cut-Off Time onwards with regards to all subsequent purchases of any of our travel insurance plans.

 

Furthermore, because of the impact of the Incident over a vast area in South Korea, MSIG extends the “Trip Cancellation and Curtailment” cover to Red OTA in such a way that the related coverage will be provided as described below:

 
  1. For any MSIG Single Travel Insurance Policies purchased before the Cut-Off Time;
    or, for any MSIG Annual Travel Insurance Policies with the trip arranged before the Cut-Off Time:

 Trip Cancellation and Curtailment

MSIG will have special compensation arrangement for the RED alert for the Incident although our travel insurance policies only cover BLACK alert. If you cancel your trip to South Korea because of the Incident, you will be covered for cancellation of any trip to South Korea departing Hong Kong on or before 31st July 2015, as stated under the Extra Benefit for Black alert under OTA in the policy without prejudice. “Trip Cancellation and Curtailment” cover

  • Reimburses expenses of unused travel and accommodation if your trip is cancelled or curtailed due to the Incident according to your policy.
  • Pays up to HK$300 administration charge billed by the travel agent if your trip is cancelled or curtailed.


 Medical Expenses

  • If it is necessary for you to seek medical consultation or unavoidably you have to stay beyond the intended return date due to sickness, regardless of your confirmed diagnosis of MERS or not, you will be covered as stated in the policy.
  • Pays for follow-up medical expenses after arrival in Hong Kong, you will be covered as stated in the policy.
 
  1. For any MSIG Single Travel Insurance Policies purchased after the Cut-Off Date; 
    or, for any MSIG Annual Travel Insurance Policies with the trip arranged after the Cut-Off Date: 

✘  As the Incident had been widely reported by media in Hong Kong and international news media on the Cut-Off Date and the Incident has become known to the public in Hong Kong, any losses caused by the Incident will NOT be covered even though you have successfully taken out the policy.

FRIENDLY REMINDER: MSIG Travel Insurance Coverage Regarding the Earthquake at Nepal

ATTENTION: A 7.8 magnitude earthquake broke out at Nepal (“Incident”), which was widely reported by media in Hong Kong on 26th April, 2015. MSIG therefore treats the Incident as a “KNOWN RISK” from 26th April, 2015 (“Cut-Off Date”) onwards with regards to all subsequent purchases of any of our travel insurance plans.

 

Furthermore, because of the severe impact of the Incident over a vast area in Nepal, the special condition under the Section of Trip Cancellation and Curtailment of our original policy wordings of our Travel Insurance plans will be waived in such a way that the related coverage will be provided as described below:

 
  1. For any MSIG Single Travel Insurance Policies purchased before the Cut-Off Date;  
    or, for any MSIG Annual Travel Insurance Policies with the trip arranged before the Cut-Off Date:

Trip Cancellation and Curtailment

If you cancel your trip to Nepal because of the Incident, you will be covered for any trip cancellation to Nepal departing Hong Kong on or before 8th May 2015, as stated in the policy without prejudice. 

Travel Delay and Missed Departure

If your trip is delayed as a result of the Incident, you will be covered as stated in the policy.

If you missed your departure as a direct result of the Incident, your additional transport expenses will be covered and if your trip is unavoidably re-routed, your additional accommodation expenses will also be covered as stated in the policy

 
  1. For any MSIG Single Travel Insurance Policies purchased after the Cut-Off Date; 
    or, for any MSIG Annual Travel Insurance Policies with the trip arranged after the Cut-Off Date:
